Meet Peter Bevan

What started as Peter's side hobby in 1997 has now grown into his life's work. With a green thumb, a small team of dedicated plant enthusiasts and heaps of Queensland sunshine, Peter proudly grows hundreds of different varieties of native Australian trees and plants in his own backyard.

Although Peter's love for plants is deeply rooted, he's most passionate about discovering new species in the bush and cultivating them into garden plants to be enjoyed by all.

The next time you visit, ask Peter about the most recent addition to the nursery.

Beautification of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, aka Pete's Corner

What was once the old Brisbane Valley railway line is now home to five and a half thousand native plants thanks to Peter Bevan.

Peter seized an opportunity to transform the disused land at the end of his street to create a beautiful native plant garden to be enjoyed by all and showcase the diverse flora of Australia. He initiated, funded and carried out the planting project in a volunteer capacity, with support from family and a few friends.

Today, the two-kilometer section of the rail trail adjacent to the Lowood Golf Club now features a unique mix of unusual and well-known Australian native plants that Peter has sourced from across Australia. The team’s hard work has certainly paid off, now attracting large numbers of gardening enthusiasts from across south-east Queensland as well as daily visitors from the community.

The rail trail has also caught the eye of the Somerset Regional Council, who joined in partnership in late 2016 to help advance the project as part of an overall effort to improve the visual amenity of Lowood.

Large group and gardening tours are most welcome. If you’d like to arrange a guided tour of “Pete’s Corner” with our resident plant specialist, please contact us.
